Early Life and educationEdit
Misty’s father was in the military so she may have been born in Reno, NV but she moved around a lot as a child. She spent every Summer in Los Angeles, CA with her grandmother and considers herself a true native of Los Angeles.
She received her BA in theatre, with an emphasis in performance, from San Diego State University. Upon graduation she moved back to L.A. to pursue an illustrious acting career. The “illustrious” thing was a little harder to come by than she expected. So in an effort to pay for the numerous acting workshops she took, she became an elementary school substitute teacher. She quickly fell in love with teaching those little ones and went on to get a teaching credential from Cal State Dominguez Hills.
She was blessed to secure a position with LAUSD as an elementary school theatre teacher. Guiding and encouraging children to use their imaginations through the use of drama was indeed an awesome experience but she still had the desire to be a T.V. and film actress. She began taking classes at the Groundlings.
The Groundlings training was intense and rigorous but she excelled in their program and was invited to join the Sunday Company. She performed in the Sunday Company for 18 months. She learned how to create realistic characters, write for them and perform them every Sunday. She did all of this while teaching and pursuing a Masters in Education from Cal State L.A.
Within her first year of being in the Sunday Company she was invited to audition for Saturday Night Live. This was a life changing experience. Although she didn’t book the gig, when she came back she decided she was going to pursue acting full time. She resigned from teaching and began this journey whole-heartedly.
In the three years since she decided to “go all in” she has been blessed to book recurring roles on How I Met Your Mother and 1600 Penn. She has also been on Hart of Dixie, Guys with Kids and most recently 2 Broke Girls. She has done numerous videos for Funny or Die including Zach Galifianakis’ series Between Two Ferns the Oscar Edition and a couple of webseries.
Her goal is to continue to work as a comedic actress and produce children’s shows.
